Born at Pingtung in 1968, Eleng Luluan is Rukai princess of Kucapungane tribe. She settles down at Dulan, Taidong for almost two decades and is specialized at mixed-medium sculpture and environmental installation, especially those different kinds of materials create conflict and yet inseparable weaving talks. As one of the most locally and internationally recognized contemporary artists, she has frequently invited for artist residency projects or exhibitions, and conducted a creational process in the stray bird-like fashion. Since her strong tribal awareness, Eleng Luluan always can adopt natural biological and symbolic codes which are the most representative to tribe as medium to respond the deeply-hidden sentiments toward tribe that she cannot let go as theme of creation. As a result, although Eleng Luluan’s artworks might be diverse and of varieties in appearance and presentations, they still remain consistent and touching.
